As I said before, I am determined to stay consistent with my blog posts. With that being said, I am back as I promised with another Spolight! post.
One of my favorite things to do when I have about 5 minutes is look up words on Dictionary.com. I love knowing the true meaning of words. One word that I have really been focusing on lately is the word “friend“. It’s really been haunting me for the past several days mainly because as I look through social media such as Facebook or Twitter it seems to me that the world has many definitions or perspectives on the word. That is why Dictionary.com has been a good buddy of mine. I wanted a “legal” meaning of the word per se and by looking it up using that website I could get just that.
Dictionary.com defines “friend” as…..
- a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard
- a person who gives assistance; patron; supporter
- a person who is on good terms with another; a person who is not hostile
I believe this sums up a friend in simple fashion if you ask me!
So where am I going with this? And what does this have to do with the person who is in the spotlight for this post?
Well, if I could give an award to someone in my life who fits each of these definitions of a “friend” it would be my best friend, TreAnna.
Although TreAnna and I met each other our freshman year of college, it feels as though we have been tight since birth. There is nobody else I would have rather experienced this huge milestone of life with.
I met her at Belhaven University’s B&U Day where all the students came to get familiar with campus and what it has to offer. Pretty much it was like an orientation for the freshman coming to the University that coming up fall. The ice cream social event they had set up for us to get to know each other is where we both just clicked. We talked and I ended up finding her on Facebook when I got back home from orientation.
When Move-In Day arrived, I could not wait to unpack my things and get settled in to find out where she was (let me just state right here that TreAnna was the first person I actually talked to at B&U Day and didn’t think I was a total weirdo … so yes I was excited). I finished unpacking my things just in time to inbox her on Facebook and find out she had just made it to campus. She was staying on the third floor of our hall so I literally ran track to get to her room. From that moment we had been inseparable! We went to every event together. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner together. We studied, watched movies, and even washed clothes together!
Of course as college life progressed, we had our ups and downs. I ended up leaving the school and moving back home because of personal and financial reasons. During that time gap of us finding ourselves, we didn’t talk as much but we always cherished our friendship. We eventually caught back up and it seems like old times.
We have been through so much together. We have laughed, cried, shared secrets, and have had some unforgettable moments. She is the only one who has seen the ugly but has known the pretty in me. She has never judged me or turned her back on me. I’m so appreciative of the love she genuinely gives me day by day.
I’m glad we continue to stay in contact now. She even has her own blog as well! So now we REALLY can stay in contact.
This is my Spotlight! for today. I hope you enjoyed this one despite how straight to the point I was. Make sure to show TreAnna’s blog some love!
